Has NBA Coverage/Media Gotten Increasingly Annoying?
I can’t tell if NBA coverage and media has always been this annoying or if it’s because there are so many more outlets that it’s been increasingly annoying as of the last few seasons. Not even 60 days ago, OKC was absolutely a dynasty. 6 weeks later, another team is a dynasty without having won one ring. About 90 days ago, one 7 footer was the greatest player we’ve ever seen and nobody has ever been like him and now another one is and we don’t care about the previous one, and he’s not even close apparently. In any given series, from game to game, one team has been “exposed and gotten figured out” when they lose and then when they win the next game, it’s the exact same thing about the team that supposedly exposed and figured out the first team. We’re talking about the legacy of a player who is 3 years in and somehow projected to be the greatest of all time, if not already the greatest we’ve seen already. Has the discourse not gotten silly and out of hand to anyone else? Like what are we talking about? I enjoy watching sports talk but it’s become too hyperbolic and dramatic. “Can the Knicks stop Wemby?” Like he hasn’t had single digit games and underperformed in these exact playoffs. I get that it’s entertainment and the narratives drive sales and views but it’s almost like when a movie adds too many explosions for no reason. NBA media/coverage has become The Fast and The Furious when they started going to space. It’s almost as if there’s too much around the clock commentary and we’re just saying anything now because something must be said at all times. I really watched something today talking about is the argument about MJ vs. LeBron over who’s the second greatest player of all time. Am I the only one feeling like this?
