My friend is friends with someone who apparently hates me?

Hello! I had a friend who I got along with pretty well. However, there was this one extremely out of pocket incident when they DM'd me and said this total stranger they know in our shared fandom hates me.

Fast forward a few weeks later. This person who hates me has their posts appear on my feed, where I see my friend praising them again. Which is fine, since they're free to like who they like. It seems like they're both friends as well.

However, I started to feel like something wasn't adding up and asked my friend through DMs as to why they're certain this person hates me [I realized around this time that this person was actually hitting 'like' on my Instagram for a long time now]. My friend said they didn't really know. I asked them for proof. They didn't have it. I asked them that if this person hated me, ​why would they keep hitting like on my posts?

My friend said again that this person didn't like me and said they were rude, while in public they did nothing but praise this person. I got fed up with my friend and blocked them. I feel guilty though, since prior to the block they kept expressing ​their concerns and asked if I was alright.

I feel like I'm being paranoid, but it genuinely felt like I was one step away from being pulled into drama. I do miss my friend, but I keep getting mixed signals from them. Should I unblock and apologize for overreacting? I never really block people, so I have no idea if I should have just outright told them I was severing our friendship before blocking them, or if I should have done something to patch it up. They did ask I was alright, so maybe they weren't intentionally trying to start something?​
