How Do We Feel About Ymir's Dialogue?

Question

When you first meet Ranni, if you lie to her, and tell her you cannot summon the spectral steed, she says "Quite the stubborn one, aren't we? Wise, in a way. The Lands Between are home to liars and cheats aplenty. Perhaps thine ample mistrust will be to thy benefit."

Aside from Patches, I think Ymir is the least trustworthy character in the game.

They say many profound things, but at the end of his quest, you realize they goaded you into attacking Metyr, and defeating her, on their behalf, just so they could sic Jolan after us, to try and eliminate us before we became an issue.

It calls the things they said prior into question. Namely, the nature of Metyr's history with Marika. I doubt, very much, that Metyr was already broken when Marika first became an Empyrean, because I believe that Marika had a hand in Metyr becoming that way.

It's taken me a long time to even think of this new theory I'm working on, and the only thing that stands in the way right now is Ymir's dialogue.

How would Ymir even know how any of that went down? How would Ymir have any idea when Metyr became broken? If Marika had a hidden plot, why would Ymir know anything about that?

There's no reason to believe that they would. I think the first things Ymir said are probably true, about the rupture across the sky, and the utter brilliance of our relationship with the Greater Will. They, an Astrologer, would have great knowledge of the Stars.

But when it comes to the inner-workings of Marika's plots, how Metyr became broken, and so forth... I just don't buy that they knew what they were talking about.

It felt like they were just throwing shade at Metyr to condition us into doing their bidding.

This started as copium, but the more I think about it, they are the absolute perfect character to lie to us like this.
