I bought this 2021 CX-5 from CarMax back in February. It has 84,500 miles and is an automatic. I noticed a light oil dusting on the engine filter box when looking under the hood and was told its common and it's just residual dusting from the engine from normal use. I asked chatgpt and it pretty much said the same thing. Im not a mechanic by any means.

  
Now its 4 months later and its noticeablly worse, but not by much. I have yet to do a new oil change and I just put maybe half a quart in to raise the level but it wasn't low or anything beforehand, it was still above the 'low' dot on the stick and ive driven 4,000 miles since purchasing the car.

  
I have a work buddy whos sort of a mechanic, and he said that its probably a PCV leak. That its not normal but also not a giant deal. That I've lost a little bit of oil but its more of a nuisance problem rather than a serious mechanical problem and I can take it somewhere and they will do a smoke test on it to find where its leaking and go from there. Theres no dusting or anything on the left (passenger) side of the engine bay either. Just on the right hand side.

  
I guess I come to you guys to ask if that sounds like it could be a problem, or if this amount of dusting is normal (if at all), and how serious the problem would be. I don't have a lot of money after some live events recently and have no idea if I should be freaking out about this or if itll break the bank. Any guidance would be much appreciated.

2021 CX-5 GT PCV leak? Or normal oil residue?
