Looking for recommendations for a veterinary orthopedic specialist near Knoxville, TN or Atlanta
Hi everyone,
My cat will turn 7 years old next month. He has been dealing with a patellar luxation / kneecap instability issue and has **already gone through two surgeries** within the past several months.
The first surgery did not fully stabilize the kneecap (something failed). He recently had a second surgery, which included imbrication / soft tissue tightening. He is currently in the recovery period. At his recent follow-up, the vet said the knee still feels somewhat loose, so they placed a temporary bandage/splint to help reduce use of the leg and keep the patella in a better position for several days. This vet said the next surgical operation is amputation if it has to be done in this vet!!!
He is still eating, using the litter box, changing positions, and able to move around, although he is currently mostly resting and not moving normally because of the bandage. I understand this may be a long recovery process, and I am not trying to rush into another procedure. However, since he has already had two surgeries and there is still concern about stability, I would really like to get a second opinion from a veterinary orthopedic specialist.
Does anyone have recommendations for a good board-certified veterinary orthopedic surgeon or specialty hospital near Knoxville, TN, or Atlanta, GA? I am especially interested in specialists who have experience with complicated or revision patellar luxation cases in cats.
**I am already considering the University of Tennessee Veterinary Medical Center, but I would really appreciate any personal experiences, recommendations, or advice.**
Thank you so much.
