Friend from trade school asked if I was gay aio

I think it was in a joking way and either way I’m not gay so whatever . What’s bothering me is how I handled it I have social anxiety so I was awkward and said yes I am cause I’m happy, to turn the question on its head lol. Is that lame? I know I could of made a better joke or played it off better but it’s got me ruminating on it and I always replay things like this or arguments and wish I wasn’t so caught in fight or flight to have more clever responses
