How to not have trade deals randomly fail?

I just had a 200 minerals/month surplus and traded 60/month to a fallen empire for some energy, and for some reason the deal was cancelled out of the blue claiming I lacked the resources for it, it tanked my relation with the FE and now I’m worried it’s gonna be coming after me sooner or later.

This has happened before in a couple of games, and I can’t figure out why, has anyone else encountered these circumstance?
