Cedar hedge failure
I had a cedar hedge installed by a landscaping company a few weeks ago and it is slowly dieing. The trees were fairly large and arrived by crane with a hard clay root ball about two feet in diameter. I understand that the root ball needs to be scored before planting, but the workers beat the crap out of the root balls with an axe, removing pretty much all of the dirt and damaging the roots. The primary reason for this was that they didn't bring any equipment to move or transplant the trees. They were more concerned about making the trees light enough to move and not the health of the trees.
The one tree started turning orange at the tip and loosing its needles pretty much right away. The other trees are looking wilted and droopy. There might be one tree that will survive. They did not add any bone meal or transplanter to the soil when they planted the hedge. I have been watering them daily, except when it rains.
Can I do anything to save them or get ready for the inevitable?
