[English to Russian] terms of endearment for calling someone “little owl”

This is for a writing project I’m working on and one of the main male characters has been called “little owl” by the other characters.

One of the other characters is Russian, and I was wondering whether совёнок could be used by him as a term of endearment for “little owl” in sort of a playful way since сова is the base for owl?
