I love the YouTube to Film/Entertainment Industry Pipeline

Discussion

As someone who grew up on YouTube's Broadcast Yourself era and saw that space at the time as authentically an outlet to be yourself, and for creatives, to CREATE.

It's inspiring and admirable to see those who made their start here and then proceeded to be a success in the industry. I just watched Obsession yesterday for the first time so I'm sorry if some are already getting tired of hearing about it, but it's inspiring to see a creative, hardworking YouTuber create a successful feature film that's been the talk of the town.

Look at the list we got so far from what I know. Donald Glover, Andy Samberg (may be wrong about this), Dylan O'Brien, David Corenswet, Curry Barker, RackaRacka, Markiplier, Ashly Burch. These people started on YouTube. Now, some had the help of their successful YouTube run to get somewhere, and some simply just started off there to develop their skills but found their own network outside YT.

Another thing I wanna say here. I found it interesting that what our "YouTubers Filmmakers" did (RackaRacka and Curry Barker) is that they started their big film debut with a pretty straightforward movie. I mean when I watched the Obsession trailer I was like "oh, guy wishes for girl to like her back, but didn't go well, pretty simple" then we have Talk To Me "oh she talked to the dead, but something lingered, and it's gonna bite her in the ass"

But what made them stand out or successful is how they kind of used this as a way to both exercise and display their directing skills and creativity. What I'm tryna say is they didn't start off with their idea, that's kinda like their "baby" yknow? They started with something simple, no bs and made a meal out of it. Obsession is an incredible movie, and I have it as my all-time favorite horror movie to date, and Talk To Me was also excellent.

Altho, Kane Parsons did work with something immediately huge which is Backrooms, not necessarily an easy story concept to make a movie about. Then there are other YouTuber directors such as Markiplier but tbh I haven't watched those. So i guess this is more of an observation from what Ive seen and directors who made a film to display their directing/storytelling ability lol

Just wanted to get that out
