My neighbour is monitoring me

I have become quite close with a neighbour over the past year. He has a family of his own, while I am a single man.

At the beginning, the father would often invite me over for drinks in their back garden. Sometimes his wife would join us as well. We seemed to have a lot in common, and I quickly found myself enjoying their company. It became a regular thing for us to spend an hour or so together most days.

As time went on, we started hanging out almost every evening and night. It became part of our routine.

During that time, he began opening up to me about various health issues. He seems to complain about almost everything. One day it's the weather being too hot, the next it's his back hurting. I've also noticed that he has some unusual twitches and movements that appear from time to time.

Over the months, I started noticing certain behaviours that made me question his attitude towards other people. For example, I once told them about a family celebration where we rented a hall and arranged catering for my cousin's birthday. Instead of seeming interested or happy, they pulled strange facial expressions that came across as dismissive or envious. On another occasion, we saw a nice Mercedes with a personalised number plate, and his immediate reaction was, "What a loser." Moments like these gave me the impression that they often look for negative things to say about others.

He just asked me for $250 after showing me that he has just received $14,000 three days ago from his father to buy new furniture. He only purchased two items with the money. How is he asking me for money after he has received this amount.

Couple of months ago their washing machine broke and I allowed them to use my washing machine 10 times for their children’s clothes. When I started saying no then they finally went to launderette otherwise they were showing me bags filled of dirty clothes in their hole..

One thing that also struck me was how aware he seemed to be of my movements. After I hadn't spent time with them for about a week, he started asking whether everything was okay. Shortly afterwards, he mentioned that he had seen me being picked up by friends and noticed me standing outside chatting with them at around 3 a.m. over the weekend.

I told him that we had simply gone out for a boys' night and that my friends had dropped me off afterwards, and we stood outside talking for a while. I couldn't help wondering why he was paying such close attention. My first thought was, "Why are you even asking me this?" It made me wonder whether he spends a lot of time watching what is happening outside from his window. We have only known each other for a year…
Something is fishy about this man but I cannot put my finger on it.
