Hey everyone,

I wanted to share a small browser game I’ve been building called **MeowSushi**.

*MeowSushi is part of the tiny MeowGPT universe I’ve been building after my useless cat chatbot unexpectedly took off here. This time it’s a cozy browser game where you serve sushi to cats around the world.*

It’s a cute sushi game where you play as a traveling sushi chef serving sushi to cats in different cities around the world. It’s free to play, runs directly in the browser, and doesn’t need a download or login.

I started by planning the core mechanics first: the gameplay loop, recipes, ingredients, cats, levels, backgrounds, and order logic. Before making any real assets, I built a rough playable version using emojis. It had one cat emoji, a few sushi recipes, and simple ingredient selection. It looked very basic, but it proved the gameplay worked.

Once the loop was working, I added scoring and order validation. I used Claude Code for the initial playable version, then ran out of tokens during development. After that, I switched to Codex inside VS Code, which ended up being a much smoother workflow. Having the project open directly in VS Code made it easier to fix responsiveness issues, adjust the UI, debug gameplay behavior, and keep polishing the game.

After the prototype worked, I moved into the visual side. I generated different cats, sushi pieces, ingredients, and art styles until I found a direction I liked. Then I created reusable JSON-style prompts to keep the assets consistent across the game.

The cat system also grew from there. I started with one cat, then added different emotional states based on the order result. Later I added multiple cats with different breeds, colors, and personalities.

For the backgrounds, I used a separate prompt system to create city-themed stages. The idea is that the sushi chef travels around the world and serves cats in different locations, so the game now has kawaii-style city backgrounds, levels, splash screens, unique cats, sushi recipes, and ingredient sets.

The rough development flow was:

1. Planned the gameplay, recipes, cats, levels, and ingredients
2. Built a working emoji prototype
3. Added scoring and order validation
4. Used Claude Code for the first playable version
5. Switched to Codex inside VS Code after running out of Claude Code tokens
6. Created a consistent asset style with JSON prompts
7. Added cat emotions, city stages, splash screens, and polish
8. Published it online

It’s still a small game, but it was a fun example of combining planning, vibe coding, AI-assisted development, and AI-generated art direction into something playable.
