Methods for liberty spikes

Does knox gelatin have a smell or anything? Will it flake off when I sleep? I don't mind a smell but I don't wanna have to clean gelatin flakes from my bed. If I have to that's okay.

I wanna do liberty spikes after my next few haircuts I have planned but currently researching spiking methods lol! So far I've heard knox gelatin and Elmer's glue and wood glue. Wouldn't wood or Elmer's glue get crusty? Or does it moreso soak in?

Is there anything I should know using any of these methods on dyed red hair? I use semi permanent manic panic vampire red. I wouldn't be willing to switch to permanent because red is already a stubborn ass color to get out of your hair even when semi permanent.

I know these are all considered 2 week methods. I hate daily styling so a 2 week hold would be amazing.

Do you use a shower cap in the shower or will this stuff hold in water without shampoo? I assumed not so I'll probably go ahead and invest in a shower cap.

Is there anything else I should know?
