Post Bankruptcy Refinancing-Credit Unions

Hey!

I’m curious about refinancing. I had filed for a chapter 7 Bankruptcy and was discharged in May of 2024. I then was able to secure an auto loan at 16% with Bridgecrest. Given my situation, and freshly out of a bankruptcy I felt as though I didn’t have much of an option.

Fast forward, I’ve taken out a few credit cards and have maintained them well, along with the auto loan (like I was supposed to before bankruptcy). I’ve built my credit up to 640 (per Credit Karma, so it’s probably lower in reality). I was offered 8.9% refinancing with Ally Bank today.

The question, is it worth to try with different credit unions locally? I’ve seen people say that they can sometimes offer better rates. However, I’m not sure if it’s worth getting multiple hard inquiries, when my credit is still pretty fragile all things considered. I guess 8.9% is way better than 16%. I’m just reaching out to see if anyone thinks it’s smart to continue to shop around for refinancing or take the offer that’s been approved.

Thanks!
