My spam calls tripled over the last year. Started

wondering if my browsing data was being sold.

Decided to actually measure it.

Spoiler: Google is on almost every single site.

Here's what's loading on popular sites right now:

[finance.yahoo.com](http://finance.yahoo.com) — 541 trackers

[foxnews.com](http://foxnews.com) — 40 trackers, 12 companies

[nbcnews.com](http://nbcnews.com) — 36 trackers, 8 companies

[cnbc.com](http://cnbc.com) — 36 trackers, 8 companies

[theverge.com](http://theverge.com) — 34 trackers, 9 companies

[washingtonpost.com](http://washingtonpost.com) — 32 trackers, 9 companies

[marketwatch.com](http://marketwatch.com) — 29 trackers, 9 companies

[rottentomatoes.com](http://rottentomatoes.com) — 23 trackers, 8 companies

Total across 73 sites measured: 1,282 tracker

events from 220 unique companies.

These aren't just analytics. Ad targeting

networks, data brokers, and fingerprinting tools

are building profiles on you on every page load.

Companies like LiveRamp, Oracle BlueKai, and

Criteo buy and sell this data including your

phone number. That's where the spam calls come

from.

I've been using Passlit Openbook to track this.

Free Chrome extension, no account needed. Just

search it on the Chrome Web Store.

Curious what numbers others are seeing. What's

the worst site you've found?

I measured how many tracking companies load on the most popular websites. Some of these numbers are shocking.
