Insight into Allergy?

I originally was interested in dermatology and did quite a bit of derm research. I’ve recently started looking into Allergy/Immunology and would love to hear from people in the field about their experiences.

How is the training?
What does compensation look like in academics versus private practice?
How is the job market if I want to be in a big city?

I’m at a residency program without any allergists or an Allergy fellowship, so I’m unsure how people in my position build a competitive application. How do applicants find research opportunities and mentorship?

For context, I have substantial a Step 2 score of 245 (not sure how relevant that is at this point). I’d appreciate any insight. Thank you!
