Elevated proBNP for all 4 Pets
Patient signalment from oldest to youngest with result value since it won’t let me upload images of the labs:
Archie, DSH, MN, 6 yr: 391
Tobias, Dogue de Bordeaux, MN, 6yr: 4251
Ben, Mastiff Mix, M, 5yr: 1022
Cipher, Dogue de Bordeaux, FS, 5 yr: 1245
For context regarding my three dogs, I wouldn’t have known they were elevated if our latest preventative care packages at work didn’t come with a cardiopet proBNP that gets sent off to IDEXX. I happened to put Ben under anesthesia for a routine dental cleaning the day before receiving his results. They are all asymptomatic and I have seen zero issues with exercise, general mentation, or anything unusual during our daily routine. All other lab values are normal aside from proBNP (T4, blood pressure, ecg, chemistry, cbc). No murmurs.
I followed up with same day thoracic radiographs for Ben and Tobias with measurements of their hearts wnl and nothing abnormal noted from the radiographs. Tobias was taken to my husband’s hospital the next day where they viewed his heart with an ultrasound and didn’t note anything unusual-with his being higher than the rest, my plan is to repeat the probnp.
Our cat was found elevated incidentally during an acute kidney failure event that I’ve been experiencing the last month and half.
I have noticed an increase in elevated values with other clients and their pet’s proBNP results with the occasional normal one in between. I was wondering if it’s common with larger breeds since my three dogs are mastiffs and if I should concerned with my other two dog’s values? I’m writing this post because I just got my third dog’s results today. I’ve been honestly having a rough time since I’ve received these results within the month on top of trying to handle everything going on with my cat.
