Why not just buy golden nibs?
Hi! I have recently gotten into fountain pens.
Lurking in this subreddit, I have come across a lot of posts in which people say they much prefer pen A over pen B because pen A has a gold nib. Often, the gold nib pen is much more expensive.
That’s all fine and dandy, but sometimes when I look at the price difference, it is actually the same as if you were to buy the other pen and add a gold nib on top. Sometimes pen B+nib is slightly cheaper!
Yet, I haven’t seen many people mention this when they compare two pens.
Is there something to gold nib pens that makes them special? If I were to buy a mid range pen with good materials and add a golden nib would I get the same experience as the gold nib one?
