I am the creator of Varp. Here is the truth about the "Ghost" mod you are all panicking about.
I have been watching the recent threads over the past few weeks. People are panicking about invisible players, empty Tab lists, and hidden kill messages on their private SMPs. It is highly amusing to see the community scramble for explanations, blaming rogue admins, command blocks, or server bugs. I decided it is time to clear the air.
Yes, Varp is real. I developed it. And no, you cannot buy it.
For those curious about the technical aspect, Varp is not a traditional hacked client. It is a highly specialized, low-level packet manipulator. When a Varp user connects to a server, the mod actively intercepts and suppresses the PacketPlayOutPlayerInfo and PacketPlayOutChat broadcasts. To the server's backend console, a TCP connection exists, but to the other connected clients, the server never sends the data that you joined. You do not exist on the Tab list.
Regarding the combat mechanics: when you strike another player, Varp strips the attacker metadata from the outgoing damage packets. The server registers the damage source as "generic" or unknown. Therefore, when the victim's health reaches zero, the server broadcasts a standard death message without assigning a killer.
A lot of victims have noted that the attacker is completely invisible. Varp hides your network presence, but Minecraft's engine still tries to render your physical entity client-side. That is why the Varp user manual explicitly instructs our users to consume an Invisibility Potion and unequip all armor. The potion hides your physical model, while the mod hides your network data. Combined, you are a complete ghost.
The project has been in private development for over a year. It is strictly invite-only, heavily encrypted, and restricted to a very small circle of testers. If you see someone claiming to sell a Varp client on Discord or Telegram, it is a scam.
Stop sending me direct messages asking for the source code. Stop asking for invites. We will remain in the shadows, and you will not see us coming.
