Denied from Costco Citi Visa due to “too few credit references” - What’s the best costco/costco gas credit card for someone with a thin credit file?

Mostly using it for Costco gas. Is it worth calling Citi to try for reconsideration, or should I just apply for a different, more accessible starter card instead?

Also I don’t want the Paypal debit card, I want to build my credit. I only own one credit card at the moment.
