Triple berry muffins and a picture of the cemetery I used to walk through and around.

Dear DGD,

I miss walking around late at night. But the last time I did while playing Pokémon Go, I was almost big kitty chow.

It was around midnight, during winter. It was a bit foggy and cold, but otherwise a great night. No one was out and about. It was one of the few times that I could get some alone time. I really enjoyed listening to music while playing Pokémon Go. I used to live near the cemetery, and walking by there at night was actually peaceful. No one else would (in their right mind) want to walk by the graveyard late at night; it's truly bliss. Though I did notice that the deer would also visit every once in a while, they mostly came through the cemetery during sunset.

Well, as I was about to head home, I had a thought pop up into my head that I should really just turn around and spin one more pokéstop. I started arguing with it, that I was tired, freezing and that it was time to go home. This thought became a voice, and a very loud one at that, to the point of yelling "JUST GRAB ONE LAST POKÉSTOP!" I thought, well it wouldn't hurt to get a few more steps in and a few more calories burned off, so what the heck? I turned around, spun the pokéstop and began to head back. Just as I was about to turn right onto the road by the cemetery that would lead me back home, I saw something huge run across the intersection, down the very same road.

It was so graceful, it looked like it was gliding rather than running across. It was too big and far too fast to be any of the dogs in the neighborhood. When I realized it was a cougar, I was scared out of my mind! I was literally stuck in place. I was completely shook. It was absolutely beautiful, yet terrifying all at once. If I hadn't listened to that voice and spun that last stop, that cougar literally would have ran into me. I had no doubt I would have died. After it ran down the street quite a ways, I saw it go into the cemetery. (Though I will admit, I waited for a very long time before continuing the walk home. 😅)

The next day, I visited the cemetery while the sun was high and bright. Lo and behold, the big kitty had left over snacks of deer legs, bones, joints and sinews spread out on some of the graves. I'm really, REALLY grateful it wasn't me, but I also felt soooo bad for the deer. This is why I can't walk late at night anymore. I wish there were night walking groups of other ladies that I could join, but as far as I am aware, there aren't any. I no longer live in that town, and I am further away from the mountains, but they are still in view. 😅

I want to walk late at night again!
