Charles Bonnet Syndrome
Hey there. My mom has retinitis pigmentosa (RP) and has been legally blind for 30 years now. Until the last couple of years, she’s been able to see well enough to get around, read, watch tv, cook, etc…about a year and a half ago she started having hallucinations that have been very disturbing for her. She sees daily people outside her kitchen window every morning, people sitting all over a restaurant where nobody actually is, and it tends to come in patterns for a period of time. She was seeing Construction going on in her house for some time with sawdust, plastic sheets laid down, different construction activities going on. She continues to see people on her patio, sitting at the table eating and then they go away when she gets outside. She doesn’t see their faces and there’s no expression or communication from them. She’s been looking for people through the vision center in Sacramento that are having similar experiences that she could talk to. She sees no end in this and causes her anxiety. She’s 84 years old and very upbeat and sweet, but now rarely leaves the house as she has difficulty deciphering between real people and not. Anyone else out there with similar condition?
