View of transgender people in actuarial space
Hi, Im currently 23F pre-operation student studying Mathematics (in Singapore). I am a transman, planning to take female to male surgery. I would like to know if the space is welcoming to transgender people. I have been delaying/hesitant about surgery as I fear discrimination in my future employment.
I am curious about
-
Whether there are many trans people (ftm) in the field. How are they perceived, do they face barriers in progressing bc of it?
-
How are they treated in the hiring process. Does the perception differ whether you are qualified? Should I wait until I've gotten qualifications to begin (I haven't started exams yet, so it would be quite a while till I'm qualified)
-
How easy it is to move countries as an actuary. I wish to move somewhere more lgbt accepting.
-
Any other resources to speak to trans actuaries
I would love to understand more in general, some Sg context would be great also. Thanks
