It is nice having confirmation

I am 4 wpo and just got my surgical notes today. Which is a “whole nother” story. After my radical hysterectomy, my only feedback was when my gyn came in to tell my mom and husband that it went great and “I should feel much better now.”

I’ve stressed for weeks because I’m a power through it kind of girl and was worried that this was unnecessary. Not that I regretted the decision, but maybe a hysterectomy was overkill? I went in to ask about ablation (told it would fail) or different meds (I was on lystrada) and came out getting a hysterectomy 6 weeks later. I’m way past the childbearing season in my life (kids in college) but it just felt like a big deal for bad cramps a few days a month and excessive bleeding. Like maybe that was part of getting older?

Today I feel much better because the notes said that I had a 10 week (12 cm) uterus and adhesions forming on the right side. The bladder was not “stuck” yet, but if I had waited or tried something less invasive, I might have compounded my problems. If my uterus continued to expand it would not have been able to be done laparoscopically. She burned the presumed endometriosis off and everything went off without complications. Not only will I not have bleeding issues I think it has fixed my bladder leakage also.

I don’t see a lot of should I, shouldn’t I posts, but I know there are other people like me who may feel like taking out an organ is excessive. Mine wasn’t.

I trusted my doctor and she was right. I should have known cause she is only my doctor because no one from my original clinic could be bothered to come downstairs and catch my daughter 17 years ago. My next door neighbor L&D nurse was afraid she was gonna have to do it and begged my current gyn to come help. I changed clinics and doctors the first chance I got!
