Michael Jackson was so obviously guilty, why are so many Americans so thick or incapable of reading people?

Its laughable from the UK and we share a lot of genetics so cant be that.

Is it Education? Religion inhibiting free thinking? A lot of rural towns inhibiting the ability to read different people? Media? Something in the water? Diet?
