Baby won’t wake up “happy“ but cries 90% of the time

Sleep

I’ve got 3 month old and so far I’ve barely ever seen him wake up calmly or happy. 90% of the time (day and night) he cries when waking up, usually until he’s actually awake and then he’s a happy bean again.

I didn’t think much of it because both his parents hate waking up, but recently noticed that a lot of my friends babies wake up “happy and rested“, while ours behaves like a grumpy teenager.

A bit of context:

- This happens regardless of where he sleeps whether he is in his crib, our bed, on us, in the sling, the pram.

- We recently discovered that holding him in the sleeping tiger position when he wakes up can help but it’s 50/50.

- He sleeps quite irregularly atm - everything from 3 hrs to 10mins during the day. At night he usually does 2.5-5hrs in a row.

- He still has a strong Moro reflex and wakes himself up when falling asleep quite often.

Is anyone else experiencing this? And/or do you have any tips that might help so we can get him to wake up happier?
