Is using no nails a viable option?

I’ve just started my classical guitar journey coming from a background in piano and electric bass, with the ladder being my main instrument. As you can guess having any sort of nails on my hands interfere with bass playing. I’m an avid rock climber where nails are definitely not in the equation 😅

My issue isn’t that i want to use nails, i actually prefer the sound of flesh. my issue is despite shaving my nails down almost completely, i usually can’t avoid a slight scrape of nail when playing, especially on my thumb.

Pardon if this is a dumb question but is it even possible to play without ANY nail at all? it really seems like my thumb no matter how shaved down will always use a bit of nail.
