Books like Yellowface, Make Me Famous and Yesteryear

Any genre!

Hey y’all!

I normally only read fantasy. It’s my main genre. But, I’ve really been loving books that have a conversational narrative style. Like, it feels as if the narrator is sitting in the room with you, telling you the story in person. It’s not focused as much on setting description or character actions (I still love those things in other books lol), and it really sort of a feelings like a podcast almost. Yellowface, Make Me Famous, and Yesteryear are great examples of this.

Yellowface is one of my all time favorite books. I love the drama of it. I love how delusional and insufferable the FMC is. I love watching her spiral into the consequences of her own actions and I love that we’ve been directly addressed the entire time. The focus of the story is the FMC telling readers what happened. Plus I work in publishing so I love reading about that too.

Same with Yesteryear. I didn’t love the execution of certain themes in that book, but the narrative style is just so intriguing to me! And once again, the FMC is horrible and awful and we’re sort of stuck in her mind as she’s narrating everything to you. Even though I didn’t love the overall plot of Yesteryear, I loved the narrative format.

I’m currently reading Make Me Famous. Same thing as the above books. It has quick pacing, covers larger chunks of time in the plot and is really an overview of the character’s life. She’s sorta insufferable but you’re getting a look behind the curtain of the music industry so it’s super interesting.

So yeah! Please suggest me books that have that conversational/direct narrative style, possibly an insufferable main character, and bonus points if it’s filled with juicy drama that shows the behind the scenes of a massive industry!
