What Character to Play with my Mercenary Partner?

So my partner and I have been loving this game to bits. They ended up liking mercenary while I ended up liking Acrid. This is fun, but we're finding a lot of items that both of us need. I'm open to trying out some different characters, but would like some direction on a character that has very few contested items with mercenary.

I've been told that Loader might be a good option, but I'm finding conflicting notes on that front and I'm not sure how true that is. Thank you all for the help in advance ^^
