Turo says I'm ineligible to book in New York. No notice, no explanation.
I live in New York State, and I've rented cars from Turo here on several occasions. I have a clean license, I am an expert driver with manual transmissions, and I'm fully approved to drive on Turo with a verified phone number, verified email, real photo, etc. I had a good rating.
I tried to book a car with Turo today and they told me the booking couldn't be completed "because of a restriction on my account." I looked over my account page to look for a notification, something I should fix, anything— it's all fine. Tried it again, same error.
Their AI chatbot and the humans who eventually emailed me told me the same things:
- I am ineligible to book a car rental in New York State.
- They can't tell me the eligibility requirements specific to New York State, or why I don't meet them.
Absolutely insane behavior! I'm now completely unable to use the service because of a policy that was not announced and they still refuse to explain. That's enough for me, I closed my account forever. I used to like using this service, but this experience was punitively bad.
