Vedalken Draconic Sorcerer build feedback for 5.5e
Looking for feedback before I lock this character in
I'm joining a new 2024 D&D campaign with a heavily dragon-focused setting and I'm considering a Vedalken Draconic Sorcerer. Before I commit, I'd love some feedback from people who have played sorcerers extensively.
CHARACTER CONCEPT
Aizen is a Vedalken who was raised without understanding the true nature of his heritage. Over the course of the campaign he discovers that his bloodline may be directly connected to ancient dragons whose sacrifice shaped the history of the setting.
Mechanically, I'm trying to build a sorcerer who contributes in every pillar of play:
• Battlefield control
• Damage
• Social encounters
• Infiltration
• Investigation
• Exploration
• Utility magic

• Infiltration
• Information gathering
• Battlefield control
• Dragon-themed story integration
QUESTIONS
-
What weaknesses do you see in this build?
-
Are there any spell choices you would change?
-
Would you choose Draconic or Wild Magic for this character concept and why?
-
Would you keep Investigation or switch to Sleight of Hand?
-
If your goal was to maximize contribution across all pillars of play, what would you do differently?
For context, the campaign setting is heavily tied to dragons. Ancient dragons sacrificed themselves during a catastrophic war, and a major part of my character's story is discovering that his bloodline may be connected to those events.
I'd especially love feedback from people who have actually played sorcerers at mid-to-high levels rather than just theorycrafting. The campaign may go to higher levels, but I just made him level 10 to help y'all get the gist of what I'm going for.
