Sick piggie

Health & Diet

I’m so worried about my sweet Emmie. I posted earlier in the week about finding soft poops in the cage. Well last night when I was holding her I noticed she was bloated. We went to the ER vet because I’d rather be safe than sorry. They said her body temp was 98 degrees, which was cooler than they’d like, so they put her in an incubator. The vet said she didn’t hear a lot of gut sounds and her belly was bloated but still soft. She ultimately got a shot of vitamin c (I didn’t feel this was needed as I do supplement but I didn’t protest), a shot to help her gut start moving, and some fluids. I was sent home with advice to get gas drops and critical care if she stopped eating. I have been giving her gas drops as prescribed since this morning and she’s still bloated. How long does it take gas to move through the system? She’s still eating and drinking, but she’s not the Emmie I have come to know in this short week that I’ve had her. I did call my exotic vet today and they are working her in Friday at noon. I found out tonight from her previous owners that she had a stillborn about a month ago. Now I’m worried this might be an infection and not even gas. I’ve only had her for a week but my heart already hurts thinking about the possibility that I could lose her. I guess I’m just looking for realistic advice on outcomes and anything else I can do besides gas drops to help until Friday. I’m so upset.
