Roughly 10 years ago, snow began to fall in the summer of 2016 in the United States and the northern hemisphere as a whole. An odd occurrence but for a few days most just believed it was a one in a million thing. However as the days grew to weeks this was no freak chance, the southern hemisphere chilled by 10 degrees as snow grew to snow storms all across North America. Power became rare as temperatures dropped to points in areas where even gasoline froze. Millions began to parish. Mother Nature had been sickened by the creatures on her surface and had stricken them with permanent winter.

10 Years later:

“My name is Scarlet or Red depends on the who. I run a botany farm in what was once the United States. When I was 16 years old snow began to fall across what was the United States. If anyone can hear this radio call you aren’t alone..”

The static of the radio cuts off as the storage shed is filled with the static from my desk ham radio setup. Behind me are rows of plants ranging from fruits and vegetables to flowers and pollinators.

“Fuck it’s been so long since I’ve met anyone, it’s getting, bad…” I mutter to myself as I turn to look at the heater, it is low on logs as the spot where mine rest are empty. I reach over grabbing a wood cutting axe, and my sidearm. Before pushing the heavy medal doos of the storage shed open. A blanket of white snow, and light swirls of snow. It was the afternoon around 6:30 pm. Enough light to go out and find a suitable source of fire wood. I grab the handles of a homemade sled that I use to carry supplies, plopping the axe on it as I begin to trudge out into the afternoon chill in search.
