help, idk what to do
about a month ago, my 4 yr old cat started being lethargic and refusing to eat any food i give him. so we visited the vet and he tested positive for felv.
we did all the medicine and even tried for second opinion for his diagnosis (because the first vet suspected FIP as well because of his A/G being consistent at 0.4, and referred me to a different vet) the second vet doesnt think its FELV because he doesnt show any signs of viral. but he has constant fever and was anemic through out.
then in 3rd week just when he started feeling better (having more energy than before) he then had to do enema because he couldnt poop. his stool was so hard because he kept refusing water.
he was discharged with IV and was adviced to do management for his dehydration. at this point he regressed so bad wherein he only has energy when i gave him the prescribed prednisolone. then he did not poop again, so i brought him back to vet and he got confined for almost a week. in his confinement, luka has no appetite and was really lethargic but the vet were able to manage it and we got his appetite and his stomach function again.
he got discharged just last week but the bet was very clear with his prognosis which is poor.
i’ve been caring for him almost all day, still hopeful he’ll feel better. he only eats spoonfed with few efforts of eating on his own. he wobbles when going to litter. i thought he was improving because his strength and his appetite was coming back.
then yesterday, i noticed he stumbled when he went to litter and couldnt go back to his cage. he peed when i held him into the litter as he couldn’t stand on his own.
he has routine checkup same day so i brought him to vet and the vet mentioned that his quality of life might not be okay anymore and that he is in pain. euthanasia was discussed.
i initially want my pet to just pass naturally and waited all night while i was saying my goodbyes. but he survived the night and im not sure if euthanasia is the way to go. he has not eaten and drank anything. he still cant go to litter on his own. is it time to let go? i still want to fight for him because i love him so much..but is there anything i can do at this point? feels like fighting fire i cant put out.
should i still do the CBC/Blood chem to check if we can still fight it?
is euthanasia better way for him? i feel so tired and hopeless.
