Is the 8th edition codex worth it ?

My girlfriend’s birthday is coming up and she loves the salamanders and especially their lore, so I was considering getting her the codex. I just wondered if anyone here knows if it’s would make a good gift and whether the lore in it still holds up. Thanks in advance.
