They said Cassius Han wasn't getting any younger and should settle down with a girl from a good family.
Then, he met the boy, and from that moment on, a house had turned into a home.
He often used "I already have a child" as his reason for rejecting all those blind dates.
Later, they said he was nearly thirty, and that the child needed a complete family to grow up properly.
And so, at every family dinner, people always crowded around his mother, father, and older brother, offering up the names of girls one after another.
His family knew exactly how he felt, yet they remained silent before turning to him and say, "Why not give it a try?"
02
It was truly, utterly unnecessary. He thought.
03
With a blank expression on his face, Cassius set his coffee down. His long, dark hair was casually tied back with a hair tie. His bad mood made it hard to even force a smile , his gaze was much sharper than usual, and his aura radiated pure coldness.
The woman across from him had a rosy flush on her cheeks-whether from blush or some other reason-as she held a cup of herbal tea, her eyes constantly darting toward him.
Everything about her, from her clothes to the handbag resting at her side, showed she came from a wealthy family. There was an effortless elegance to every move she made. She drank her tea without making a sound, spoke in a soft voice, and kept a smile around the corners of her lips.
She was the very definition of a well-bred lady from a prominent family, exactly as the elders always described.
04
She was also a wolf, locking her sights on her prey.
05
"Perhaps we could give it a try?" The woman finally voiced the reason for their meeting.
"I heard you already have a child? I don't mind," she continued, plucking up her courage when Cassius remained silent. "I'm very fond of children."
Even though her tone was gentle, her words carried a commanding edge that brooked no refusal. It was as if she were telling him: I think you ought to accept this.
06
Do you actually know me? Or did you come here based on the background information you heard from your family? Why does your introduction keep dropping hints about finding someone of the same social status?
Cassius let out a sigh.
"This isn't about whether I have a child or not. I have never considered entering a relationship, nor do I wish to enter one," he continued. "I like my life exactly the way it is now. No one can force another person to accept something they do not want. Don't waste your time on me."
07
In the end, he watched the woman whose face had turned pale leave. Before leaving the café, he stopped by the counter to get two mille crêpes to go-something he had been eyeing ever since he walked in.
08
Cassius held his phone up, his eyes never leaving a certain green-haired boy who had been running wildly across the living room for the past three minutes.
"I sent her back," he said simply into the phone once the other side finally picked up, giving a brief account of today's failed blind date. Right before hanging up, he added one final note: "I won't be coming back for New Year's this year."
The boy ran into his embrace, and Cassius gave those soft, chubby cheeks a playful pinch.
