MVC Theory on SPY Intraday Trading
Been digging into MVC (Most Valuable / Max Gamma Strike) lately and it really clicks.
MVC’s basically the strike with the highest gamma exposure. That’s where market makers have the heaviest hedging flows, so price tends to get “pulled” back toward it intraday, kinda like a magnet.
What I’ve noticed: MVC works as a solid intraday anchor. When price drifts too far above or below, it often reverts back, especially in balanced markets.
Before I learned about MVC, I’d just mark the nearest red gamma strike since red usually attracts price and green repels. Now with MVC added to the BS chart, it feels like a more structured way to spot where the strongest gamma pull might be.
Of course, it’s not bulletproof. Big news, econ events, or heavy directional flows can blow right through it.
Curious how you guys use it. Do you treat MVC as a key magnet level, or just another reference point alongside other gamma zones and BS signals?
