Mondello Siracusa Sep Oct

Hello,

We are travelling to Sicily mid September to mid October. Wanting a beachy holiday with a 3yo and baby. We are thinking 2 weeks in Mondello and 2 in Siracusa or nearby beach e.g Fontane Bianche.

How is Fontane Bianche / other beaches near Siracusa in early October? Are there restaurants etc open? We would prefer spiaggia libera so not bothered so much about the lidi being open but certainly want to eat at restaurants. Also is the train from Fontane Bianche to Siracusa quite frequent? We would be happy to get the train into the city every couple of days for more restaurant options and sightseeing.
