So me, my husband and 11 year old daughter were on our way out of Philadelphia crossing a bridge. We had just seen the special theater release of episode 9 of TADC and were settling in for a 4 hour drive home. Yes, We drove 4 hours to see it. It was her 6th grade graduation gift. We regret nothing.

Well as we got stuck in gridlock, stand-still traffic, my daughter starts screaming and pointing at the edge of the bridge yelling "A KITTEN! A KITTEN! A KITTEN!" Tucked underneath a metal beam, in a little hole, I could just barely make out the silhouette of a tiny kitten with his little eyes closed sitting there. We were stopped but traffic ahead of us was starting to move. There were no cars to our right, it was just a shoulder, so I thought for a split second, my eyes darting from my husband's disapproving eyes (he was driving) and my daughter's look of desparation and worry. Then I unclicked my buckle and whipped that door open so fast and jumped out before the groan of my husband's objections could be heard.

There were a couple honks from the huge line of cars behind us. I'm sure they must have thought this lady was crazy. Well they're not wrong. I very quickly snuck up on the kitten, sitting there, and grabbed him before he darted. I was afraid of him potentially falling 50 feet to the water below or running underneath the many congested lanes of traffic. Understandably, he was startled at the sudden grab and yeowled so loud you'd think I'd just tortured the poor thing. Funny thing, the honks stopped as I'm sure many saw what I was carrying. Like, oh, yeah maybe she's a crazy lady on the bridge but it was for a kitty so we're cool. I got back into the car swiftly just as traffic started moving again. The poor little kitty was maybe 7 or 8 weeks. He's short haired, grey tabby with lots of white on his legs and face. Or at least what used to be white as he was so covered in soot from being near a road that my hand looked like I'd just grabbed a dusty tire after handling him.

We stopped at a CVS nearby and got him some water and wet food as well as pet-safe wipes to clean off the thick road dust all over him. He ate the food and water enthusiastically. I am convinced if we hadn't grabbed him, he'd either get run over or die from dehydration. The latter was most likely since it was about 80°. There was no sign of a mom cat anywhere either.

After calming down, and getting plenty of food and water, he settled on my daughter's lap and fell asleep for the remaining trip home.

We gave him a much needed bath, more food and water. And now he's in a quiet place resting. He's still skittish but allows us to pick him up with no hissing or biting so we think he will acclimate well once he gets used to us.

Since we already have 5 cats, we are JUST fostering him despite my daughter's begging and pleading to keep him.

Honestly, we are just fostering him until he can find a good home.

Fostering I tell you.

FOSTERING HIM!!

His name is Jax
