eerie cries
I just want to share one of my weird/ghostly experiences during my medtech internship back in 2023.
At that time, I was assigned to a public hospital in Tagum. I was rotating in the microbiology section of the laboratory. For context, yung microbiology section was not inside the main laboratory. Medyo malayo siya, so you still had to walk a bit to get there. It was located on the second floor of the hospital, around the area above/near the ER, but slightly more to the side.
The room itself was small and a bit cramped, especially because there were interns from around 2–3 schools assigned there, plus the staff. The windows were also positioned in a way na nakaharap siya sa hospital roof outside. So kapag tumingin ka sa window, roof lang talaga makikita mo, not an open street or hallway. Since limited lang yung windows and hindi masyadong maliwanag yung room, naka-on lagi yung lights kahit morning.
Since it was the microbiology section, we were handling patient specimens and culture plates. We would streak specimens onto agar plates, incubate them, and later the staff would check for bacterial growth and identification. That day, I was assigned to streak specimens on plates, so nakaupo lang ako sa isang work table. Dalawa kaming interns assigned sa task na yun.
This happened around 9 or 10 AM, hindi ko na exactly maalala. Some of our co-interns were asked to get specimens from the main lab, so for a while, dalawa na lang kaming interns left in the room. We were seated at the table/island area, and behind me was a small closed window. Again, outside that window was just the roof. Below and around that area was the ER.
The room was quiet. Walang music, walang loud talking, nothing. The only sound I could hear was the typing from one of the staff members on the keyboard.
Then suddenly, I heard a strange crying sound behind me.
Hindi siya tunog baby na umiiyak. Hindi rin siya yung typical na iyak ng bata. But the tone was still somehow child-like. It was slow, soft, and honestly very eerie. Napalingon talaga ako sa likod. Somehow it reminds me sa mga horror movies na may weird na umiiyak na bata ganun.
But of course, wala naman akong nakita except the closed window and the roof outside.
At first, hindi naman ako natakot. I just noticed it and thought it was weird. Then after around 2–3 minutes, I heard it again. So lumingon ulit ako.
This happened several times. Lingon ako nang lingon sa likod until the staff beside me noticed and asked, “Ba’t ka lingon nang lingon sa likod mo?”
That was when I told her, “May naririnig po kasi akong weird na iyak.”
She paused for a bit and then said something like, “Aysus, sa ER pedia lang ‘yan uy.”
Pero mas lalo akong napakunot-noo kasi the room was quite isolated from the main lab, and we couldn’t even hear the rain from there sometimes. So how could I clearly hear a crying sound from the ER, especially through a closed window and with the roof outside?
Also, the way she reacted felt like she knew something. Like parang sanay na siya or may idea na siya. That microbiology room already had a reputation for being haunted, and there were many stories from staff and interns who had experienced things there.
At first, I thought baka ako lang yung nakarinig because my co-intern didn’t seem to react. But after a few more minutes, the same crying sound came again, and this time it was louder.
Both me and my co-intern turned to look behind us at the exact same time.
We just stared at each other silently. Walang imik. Eye contact lang, like we were both asking, “Narinig mo rin ba yun?”
And yes, she heard it too.
I’m usually the type of person who says “to see is to believe,” but that moment really made me think na maybe some things really do exist beyond what we can explain.
There were already a lot of stories about that microbiology section. Some people said may nagpapakita raw doon, and some of our classmates/co-interns who claimed to have a third eye also said they could really sense or see things in that area. I didn’t expect na ma experience ko siya.
But honestly, mas scary pa yung stories from the ones na co-interns with third eye compared to what I experienced hahahaha and swear like to the point na ayaw ko ng bumalik dun na room
