Just saw this subreddit and had some questions

🗨️ Discussion

Hey, so basically I have a really weird background because I am an Indian national but a lot (like almost half) of my extended family (cousins, aunts, uncles, nephews/niece from my cousins etc) are Pakistani nationals and live in Pakistan. I have never lived in India or Pakistan (I do visit India occasionally), my family speaks Urdu and they’re all Muslims (as am I). Basically, I’ve always been curious about Pakistan because of my background and I almost had the opportunity to visit for a family wedding in Karachi but then April 2025 happened. My questions are:

  1. In India there are a bunch of competitive exams for basically every good career and almost every student in India is hell bent on it and it causes a lot of depression and burnout. Does Pakistan have a similar culture and do people glamourise jobs like engineering and medicine in the same way?
  2. I saw this sub’s LGBT debate and I completely respect your opinion and according to Islam itself, you would be right. However, maybe it’s a cultural factor of India but I don’t think it’s as universal among Indian Muslims. Of course there are a lot of people who would absolutely agree that it’s wrong but there’s also a lot who wouldn’t. Even one of the Muslim parties technically supported the decriminalisation of homosexuality as a constitutional right. Wonder what you guys think of it and the cultural effects of secularism.
  3. Also, I’m curious what do you guys think of Ahmadiyya Muslims because I’ve read a lot about their situation and tbh I feel bad for them. Is there a reason for their situation and is it as bad as it seems from the outside?
And at the end I’d just say I love you guys because well, half my family are Pakistani so it’ll always be close to my heart
