An Eternity of War

The ground trembles with the footfall of giants. Not the giants of myth, those that consume human flesh and raid castles. No, these were monsters of humanity's own making, the brainchild of war's ultimate practictioner. They stood taller than even the tallest giants from the fables, towering over the blood-soaked ground, colossal, Titans in their own right.

Built for only one reason.

Waging war.

A massive explosion shakes the earth. No, perhaps massive is the wrong descriptor. For an explosion such as this, only the byproduct of the ultimate weapon, carving red, glowing trenches through mountains.

From the direction the laser was fired from, an unearthly bellow shakes the air. Mechanical, yet with an undertone of hollow rage. An answer is given, a beam of pure light slamming into the source of the bellow. An Earthmover. Built to carry a city on its back, to shelter humanity from the wasteland below. But the humans are long gone. Now, it carries on its duty, roaming, waging war against other Earthmovers. An ouroboros. An eternal cycle, the wheels of war crushing all in their path.

Uncaring for the lives lost, indifferent to the scars left upon the earth. After all, what is flesh and bone to a machine?

The irony is that the Earthmovers were to be the ultimate weapon, the machines to end all wars. But, a machine built to end war, is always a machine built to continue war.
