Spell Brigade tips anyone ?

Im a few days new to the game . Mostly playing co-op . I want to try something noticeably different with my damage and clearing out portions of hordes playing solo ( on Hardcore ) that I just unlocked .

Without worrying about my luck in cards that I pull , What characters/ combos in general have worked best for doing noticeable damage quickly in Hardcore runs? That way I can get a better idea on what cards to HOPE for/focus on, or re-roll. I know spell choices vary as well depending on what characters you have unlocked ; but right now I have Reginald, pipwick, Maggie, star mage, bryony, and wizard king . ( if that helps to tell me whats best or what characters I should go for next )
