Can't use whatever vehicle I want on my own created route? Am I missing something?

First Horizon I've played since three, discovered the route/event creator.

Spent a whole of time making a really fun 40 mile rally special stage.

Only to find out I can only use the category of car I created it with to race on it? Wtf?
