*The Chinese drama title 攻玉 can be literally translated as “working/polishing jade.”*

***攻玉*** *comes from the Chinese idiom:*

>*[他山之石，可以攻玉](https://baike.baidu.com/item/%E4%BB%96%E5%B1%B1%E4%B9%8B%E7%9F%B3%EF%BC%8C%E5%8F%AF%E4%BB%A5%E6%94%BB%E7%8E%89/4515018)*

>*tā shān zhī shí，kě yǐ gōng yù*

>*“Stones from other mountains may be used to polish jade.”*

>*It originally comes from the “Heming” poem in the Book of Songs (Shijing, “Lesser Odes”) [《诗经·小雅·鹤鸣》](https://baike.baidu.com/item/%E5%B0%8F%E9%9B%85%C2%B7%E9%B9%A4%E9%B8%A3/1983417).*

>*The phrase literally means that stones from another mountain can be used to carve and polish jade. Figuratively, it refers to talented people from elsewhere who can contribute to one’s own country, and also to people or advice that help one recognize and correct one’s shortcomings. It is usually used as a standalone expression.*
