96% yes.

I genuinely cannot think of another political question right now that would return a number like that. Not even close.

The question was simple: should the United States develop a national high speed rail system? And the map is almost entirely blue. Coastal, inland, red state, blue state — it doesn't seem to matter. The dots are blue everywhere.

HSR might be the last truly unifying infrastructure idea in American politics. Conservatives can frame it as economic competitiveness and reducing dependence on oil. Progressives frame it as climate and equity. Libertarians sometimes come around on the "get the government out of airport security" angle. Everyone who's taken a train in Europe or Japan comes home a convert.

The 4% no is interesting to me though. Who are they? Genuine skeptics of the economics? People who've watched California's HSR project become a cautionary tale? I'd actually love to hear that perspective in the comments.

Still early data and the map needs more voices — especially from the middle of the country where the case for HSR is honestly the most compelling and the most complicated. Would be fascinating to see how the numbers shift as it fills in.

HSR in the US - I’m not sure there’s a more unifying project
