I analyzed 100,000 timer sessions. Here's what users actually choose.
I recently analyzed usage patterns from my timer website, ClockTools Timer, and some of the results surprised me.
Most productivity articles assume everyone uses the classic 25-minute Pomodoro technique.
The data tells a different story.
After looking at roughly 100,000 timer sessions:
π₯ 25 minutes
Still the most popular choice. No surprise there.
π₯ 45 minutes
Much more common than I expected. Many users seem to prefer longer focus blocks.
π₯ 50 minutes
Popular among office workers following the 50/10 method.
π 60 minutes
Frequently used for meetings, workouts, cooking, and reminders.
π 90 minutes
A favorite for deep work sessions.
Some other interesting findings:
β’ Mobile users generally choose shorter durations.
β’ Desktop users favor 45-90 minute sessions.
β’ Most people start a timer within a few seconds of opening the page.
β’ Simplicity beats features almost every time.
One thing I learned from building is that most users don't care about productivity frameworks.
They just want:
Open page β Set time β Start.
No downloads.
No sign-up.
No app installation.
For those who regularly use timers:
What's your preferred focus-session length?
