Moving to Japan in September after graduation. What jobs are realistic?
Hi everyone,
I’m moving to Japan in September and wanted to get some realistic opinions on what kinds of jobs I should be looking at.
I’m 23, graduating from UBC with a degree in Human Geography, and I have dual Japanese and Canadian citizenship so I don’t need visa sponsorship. My Japanese is around the N2 level. My speaking and listening are fluent, but my reading and writing are definitely weaker than my conversation skills. English is my first language.
Most of my work experience has been in restaurants, customer service, and youth sports coaching. I don’t really have experience in a corporate office environment, which is why I’m trying to figure out what would actually be realistic for someone in my position.
I know English teaching is always an option, but I’m wondering what other jobs people have seen people get with a similar background. I’m open to different fields and not set on using my degree directly.
I’m mainly looking around Osaka, but I’d be interested in hearing about opportunities anywhere in Japan.
What kinds of jobs would you be applying for if you were in my position, and what sort of starting salary would be realistic?
Thanks.
