Has anyone done a 407 visa without a lawyer? Need help with carpentry training plan!

Subclass 485

Hi everyone!
I’m trying to understand if it’s realistic to apply for a 407 Training visa without using a lawyer or migration agent.

I’m currently on a 485 visa, and unfortunately it expires on 9 of July

I started my experience as a carpenter around November last year so I only have 8 months of carpenter experience. My boss is willing to support me and wants me to stay with the company because they think I’m a good worker and have potential.

A few people have mentioned that if the company is not already approved as a sponsor, the process could take months. That makes sense, but the reason I’m still exploring this option is because the company has apparently helped another guy with a similar visa process a few years ago. He is all good, later got residency, and he still works with us now.

So I’m thinking there’s a chance the company may already have some kind of sponsorship approval or previous setup with Home Affairs. I’m still trying to confirm exactly what visa he did, whether it was a 407 or another employer-sponsored pathway, and whether the company is still approved as a sponsor.
I’ve already messaged my boss, the owner of the company, and the guy who went through the previous visa process, just to get more information.

In the meantime, I’m trying to move forward with whatever I can do from my side.

I think the most complicated part will be the training plan, especially because it needs to be properly structured and related to carpentry. So if anyone has done a 407 training plan for carpentry, or has a template/example I could use as a reference, that would help me a lot.

Has anyone here done a 407 visa without a lawyer?
Or has anyone helped their employer with the sponsorship/nomination part?
I’m mainly trying to understand:
-How to start the process by myself
-How hard the sponsorship/nomination part is
-How to prepare a proper carpentry training plan
-What documents were important
-What mistakes I should avoid
-If a lawyer/agent was actually necessary

Any advice, examples, templates, or real experience would help me heaps.
Thank you guys so much.
Have a lovely weekend everyone.
