If no new gear will be coming after next week, can we get rid of Avant-Garde?

Basically the title. I know that posting on reddit means basically nothing as far as actually getting someone from bungie to listen, but I thought it would be worth bringing this up somewhere. Avant-Garde was designed to get people to keep playing new seasonal content more so they could get good new gear to take on difficult content that has this modifier, but with the game being put on maintenance mode after next week I don't really see what purpose it serves besides forbidding people to use some of their gear in certain activities. In 2 years all gear will be old gear so why keep this modifier around to draw an arbitrary line in the sand about what gear is too old to use?
